The Nutritionist Salary – Are you ready for the big bucks?
With the economy going down hill as it is now, you are probably wondering which career you should pursue. I can tell you right now, becoming a dietitian or nutritionist may be one of the very best career decisions you ever made. Let me tell you why…
The nutritionist salary is quite livable (even if you don’t have a master’s degree). You’re looking at an average of fifty thousand dollars per year. That’s nothing to sneeze at, to be honest. With the average salary of just thirty thousand dollars in US, it’s not really something you can turn down easy (and you shouldn’t).
It is a known fact that obesity can lead to coronary problems, which are the leading cause of death in US. More and more people nowadays look professional help from registered nutritionists and dietitians, which is why you should consider the job. Helping other people and making a decent living for yourself is not a bad deal …

1. Why You Don’t Need To Worry About the Demand!
People are living their lives at a very fast pace. They don’t have time to stop and eat the right things or exercise 30 minutes a day as they should. They may very well spend their whole day in a cubicle. All the unhealthy choices will take a toll one day though and it will come a time when the family doctor will point out to your future client that he/her should visit the local (and hopefully friendly) nutritionist. So, you don’t have to worry about the demand. It’s here already…
There are many types of nutritionists and you will be able to make a choice at some point. Just to have a rough idea, your choice will range from sports nutritionists, special ailments nutritionist (like diabetes, kidney problems, overweight, etc) to nutritionists working at a nursing home or hospital.
2. What’s Expected of You
.
You are responsible for changing lives. People who’ll come before you, will be desperately seeking guidance.
IMPORTANT! The nutritionist is also responsible for interpreting correctly the clients blood analysis. As a trained nutritionist, you should be able to spot what kind of health problems your client is having (that he or her may not even be aware of) and provide the best diet plan customized to your clients needs.
In order to become a registered dietitian or nutritionist, you are required to at least have a bachelor degree in dietetics, food & nutrition, food systems management, or something else related to these topics. You will study microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, biology, physiology … and other courses that are essential for a dietitian/nutritionist.

3. The nutritionist salary ranges
Let me blunt … Becoming a nutritionist is not something everyone can pursue. You have to be willing to study hard in order to become one. You’ll have a lot of responsibility when you start the job. These are the reasons why nutritionist salaries are above average. It’s quite hard to become one and to make a name for yourself, but once you do, you won’t have to worry about money again.
The average salary is around $53000 per year (ranging from an entry level of $40k to $60k for a more experienced nutritionist). Your salary will be influenced by a series of factors that we’ll discuss below.
Your specialization and education may command more dollars. For example, a registered dietitian is looking at $70k-$90k per year salary, while a Dining Services Coordinator can only claim around $30k per year.
Your reputation and word of mouth can have direct impact on your annual income. Working with stars will catapult your earnings considerably in the six or possible seven figures per year range. Consider this … How many people will want an audience with Oprah’s dietitian and pay premium prices for it?
Last but not least, where you live also affects the money you can earn. For instance if you live in Nebraska you will make $45.000 per year, but if you live in New Mexico you can make $56,000 per year. So choose your location wisely as it will affect the money you make each month!
